ABOUT POLLY
As I write this, I am now 81 years old. The photo you see has not been re-touched.
I have 2 hip replacements, multiple surgical procedures on my hands for Dupuytren's contracture – and a life that is still filled with a lot of fun, adventure, creativity, and a deep sense of peace and satisfaction!
It wasn’t always that way.
After a rich and diverse career in sales, marketing and personal development, I had retired. I was in my 70’s when I started noticing some “old Lady” thoughts creeping in:
“I’m too old to start something new…”
“I’ll wait till tomorrow…”
You know… those kinds of thoughts that come from our society’s stereotype of “Aging”. This is especially true as we need repairs on various body parts that are wearing out. I discovered how easy it is to fall into the whole “aging” assumption that if we don't look and function the way we did 20 or 30 years ago, we are somehow diminished.
I was 79 when I came across the work of Dr. BJ Fogg and the Behavioral Design Lab at Stanford University. The “Tiny Habits” method, rooted in the latest discoveries from the field of neuropsychology, helped me create a way to overcome my life-long aversion to exercise! (I could always find an excuse to avoid doing the very thing that could improve my mobility and quality of life!)
But this experience was so much more than overcoming my own life-long aversion to exercise. As I started adding more of the Tiny Habits method to my life and keeping all these small promises to myself on a daily basis, I discovered that…
My self-confidence was growing.
My ability to cope with challenges vastly improved - instead of obstacles, I saw opportunities to be creative and gentle with myself.
My self-talk and outlook on life became more positive.
And I discovered that I had what I can only call “more life energy”.
And so at the age of 79, I gathered up my courage, and in spite of “you’re too old to….” thoughts slinking around here and there, I got certified as a Tiny Habits Coach. I then developed this course as a tool to improve the quality of life as we deal with the challenges of being fully “grown up”!
This “Thrive - After 65” course is the embodiment of my own personal journey. It is for anyone who is tired of grappling with ”Old Lady” thoughts and outdated beliefs about aging that are imposed on us by society. My goal is to help you discover that as you sprinkle your days with meaningful activity, celebration and a renewed sense of satisfaction and self-confidence, you can open the doors to a more deeply satisfying life, just as I have.
